Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Plan and prepare to conduct roadway maintenance
  2. Conduct roadway maintenance
  3. Carry out operator maintenance on equipment

Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

conduct roadway maintenance on at least two occasions, including:

transporting resources, including:

personnel

machinery

materials

power

water

carrying out equipment checks on at least three of the following:

pumps

pumping equipment

signs

barriers

tools

carrying out material checks, including on:

ballast

concrete (readymix and quickset)

salt

conducting roadway maintenance, including at least three of the following:

grading

contouring

dust suppression

ballasting holes

cutting drains

performing equipment inspections and carrying out operator maintenance.

During the above, the candidate must:

locate and apply required documentation, policies and procedures and confirm work activity is compliant

implement the requirements, procedures and techniques for conducting roadway maintenance, including:

reading, interpreting and applying technical information

identifying, addressing and reporting environmental issues, potential hazards and risks

applying equipment and manual handling techniques

selecting and using relevant tools and equipment

interpreting and applying mine plans

operating and maintaining the roadway maintenance equipment

identifying, selecting and applying roadway maintenance materials

identifying work requirements

work effectively with others to conduct roadway maintenance in a way that meets required outcomes, including:

organising work activities to meet task requirements

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

complying with reporting requirements and procedures.

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of:

pumping equipment

roadway maintenance materials and their application, including:

roadway maintenance machinery and their application, including:

load haul dumps and attachments

ram cars

rollers

bobcats

principles and techniques for roadway maintenance, including:

grading

contouring

dust suppression

ballasting holes

cutting drains

basic mine geological conditions

techniques for applying mine environmental data, requirements and constraints related to roadway maintenance, including:

ventilation and gas data

deputy reports

geological hazard plans

survey data

principles and techniques for identifying and responding to relevant hazards and emergencies

site requirements for housekeeping, completing maintenance records and reporting requirements

basic techniques for communicating job activities with others.
